#BIGEASTwbb Minute: UConn, St. John’s Wrap Up Unbeaten Weeks

Weekend Recap
No. 12/15 Connecticut and St. John’s finished with 2-0 records in BIG EAST women’s basketball play this week following wins over the weekend. The Huskies won at Georgetown on Sunday 83-55, while the Red Storm scored a 55-48 win at Providence on Saturday night on FS1. Also on Saturday, No. 21/21 Creighton won at DePaul 75-68 on FS1, while Seton Hall won at Butler 64-50 and Marquette defeated Xavier at home 81-52.  
 
12/15 UConn 83, Georgetown 55  
Aaliyah Edwards scored 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting and shorthanded No. 12 Connecticut defeated Georgetown 83-55 on Sunday. After leading 47-35 at halftime, the Huskies dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Hoyas 21-8. The Huskies (12-3, 4-0 BIG EAST) kept it rolling into the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of the first 13 points to go up 79-45. Graceann Bennett had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Georgetown (12-3, 2-2).

St. John's 55, Providence 48  
The Red Storm trailed by eight late in the third quarter and fought back to win their second straight BIG EAST contest. St. John's (9-7, 3-1) has now won five of its last six and seven of its last nine contests. Unique Drake shined with 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor. The guard also finished with a career-high four steals. Providence (8-8, 2-1) saw two tally double-doubles – Brynn Farrell (18 points, 12 rebounds) and Olivia Olsen (12 points, 10 rebounds).

21/21 Creighton 75, DePaul 68  
Down 5-2 two minutes into the game, Creighton (11-3, 2-2) went on an 8-0 run to take the lead which it would hold the rest of the way. Five Bluejays finished in double figures, including a team-high 17 points for Lauren Jensen, who added five assists and five boards. DePaul (9-8, 1-3) was sparked by Jorie Allen, who had game highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Creighton made 11 threes on the afternoon while DePaul totaled 13 steals.

-/RV Seton Hall 64, Butler 50  
Freshman Savannah Catalon had a game-high 17 points to lift Seton Hall to its second BIG EAST road victory of the season on Saturday. After shooting just 5-for-39 from three-point range in its last two games, The Hall (10-5, 2-2) broke out from downtown against the Bulldogs (8-6, 0-3), going 12-for-22 (55%).  Butler was also impressive from deep, hitting 10 triples, but netting only nine two-point field goals. The Pirates' defense was what we've come to expect, holding Butler to just 50 points.  It's the eighth consecutive game that The Hall has held its opponent under 55 points. Jordan Meulemans continued her tear from deep for Butler, going 5-of-7 from three towards a team-best 15 points.

19/20 Marquette 81, Xavier 52  
The Golden Eagles (13-2, 2-2 BIG EAST) had four in double-figures led by Mackenzie Hare, who had a game-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Hare hit four threes, the sixth time this season she’s hit four-or-more threes in a game, and had three assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Xavier scored the first eight points of the game in the first 1:52 that forced an early MU timeout. Marquette would close the half on a 35-7 run. Marquette forced a season-high 28 turnovers. The Musketeers (1-11, 0-3 BIG EAST) were led by Daniela Lopez who had 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The victory was head coach Megan Duffy’s 100th at Marquette.
