BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Stella Downing, Creighton, Sr., M
Downing led Creighton to a 1-1-0 record this week, recording her first career goal and the first brace of her collegiate career. After recording two shots, including one on goal, in the Bluejays 2-1 setback to Xavier on Thursday, Downing led the Jays with a pair of goals in Creighton’s 2-1 win over UConn on Sunday afternoon. Netting two goals on Sunday, Downing became the first Bluejay to score twice in a match since Abigail Santana logged two goals against North Dakota State on Sept. 10, 2023. In addition, Downing became just the fourth Bluejay to score two goals in a BIG EAST match since joining the league in 2013.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Natalie Bain, Xavier, Jr., D
Bain helped Xavier to a 2-0 week in wins over Creighton and Butler as the team limited both teams to just three shots on goal. Xavier’s defense earned its seventh shutout of the season in the 3-0 win at Butler. Bain got involved offensively against Butler as she finished the day with three points on one goal and one assist.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Cara Martin, Georgetown, Jr., GK
Martin had another solid week between the pipes for GU playing 135 minutes across two games. Martin tallied three saves in a 1-0-1 week with a 3-0 win over Saint John’s and a 1-1 tie with Butler. She helped GU tally its league-leading ninth shutout of the season on Sunday.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Samantha Erbach, Xavier, Fr., F
In Xavier’s 3-0 win over Butler, Erbach finished with four points on two goals, to mark the first multi-goal game of her college career. She has six goals for her freshman season, including a team-high tying three game-winners.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Anna Pierce, Butler, R-Jr., GK
Pierce made four saves to preserve the draw with No. 20 Georgetown and then made a career-high 10 saves in the 3-0 loss to Xavier.
Chioma Okafor, UConn, Jr., F
Okafor scored the game-winning goal in the 1-0 win versus Providence and scored the game-tying goal at Creighton.
Eliza Turner, Georgetown, Sr., M
Turner netted two goals in two games in the 1-0-1 week against Saint John’s and Butler. The senior has now tallied six goals in the last seven games.
Chiara Pucci, Seton Hall, Sr., D
Pucci scored the game-winning goal and led the Seton Hall backline in a 1-0 shutout victory over Providence on Sunday.
Samantha Wiehe, Xavier, Sr., M
Against Creighton, Wiehe tied the eventual 2-1 Xavier win on a made PK, her team-leading seventh goal of the season. She’s 5-of-5 on penalty kicks for the season and was the first player in NCAA DI to make five PKs this season. In Xavier’s 3-0 win at Butler, she picked up an assist on Samantha Erbach's second goal, her fifth helper of the season to go with seven goals for a team-high matching 19 points.
