MBB Minute – BIG EAST teams won four of five battles on Saturday, UConn, St. John’s, Georgetown and Providence were the victors and each moved to 2-0. Seton Hall lost on a buzzer-beater.

Connecticut started slowly against New Hampshire, but then put its pedal to the metal in a 92-53 victory at XL Center. Alex Karaban filled his stat line with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots. Liam McNeeley became the first Husky in nearly 50 years to start his career with two double-doubles. He had 10 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday.
St. John’s trailed Quinnipiac 39-35 at halftime before scoring 61 points in the second half and posting a 96-73 victory at Carnesecca Arena. RJ Luis Jr. scored 24 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds. Deivon Smith also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
Georgetown rode freshman Thomas Sorber and a stout defense to a 69-57 victory against Fairfield. Sorber posted 25 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots. In two games, Sorber is averaging 22.5 points, 11.0 boards, 2.0 blocked shots and 2.0 steals. The Hoyas held the Stags to 27.6 percent shooting in the second half.
Providence started making its move on Stonehill late in the first half with a 13-2 run and kept the momentum up after the break in a 76-49 win. Guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim had 16 points and six assists and backcourt partner Wesley Cardet Jr. added 12 points and a game-high eight boards.
Seton Hall led for 32:38 against Fordham, but the Rams scored a basket as time expired and left Walsh Gym with a 57-56 win. The Pirates (1-1) made only 8-of-16 from the foul line. Yacine Toumi scored a team-high 12 points, but fouled out in 18 minutes.
Sunday’s lone game has Creighton hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at 6 p.m. ET on FS1.
