Georgetown, St. John’s, Seton Hall Earn Latest #BIGEASTvb Awards

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Jones, Jr., S/RS, St. John’s
Jones contributed 3.86 kills per set on .420 hitting with two triple-doubles as the Red Storm rallied to pick up a pair of essential victories this weekend. Versus DePaul (W, 3-1), the junior tallied 22 assists, 15 kills,11 digs, and three aces on .407 hitting. In Saturday’s sweep of Xavier, Jones registered 15 assists, 13 digs, and 12 kills with a pair of blocks and an ace on .435 hitting. The pair of triple-doubles moves Jones’ total to six on the season, one shy of the BIG EAST record.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Rashanny Solano Smith, So., L, St. John’s
Solano Smith anchored St. John’s defense with 4.86 digs per set, complemented by nine assists and three aces, over the Johnnies’ essential 2-0 week. Against DePaul (W, 3-1), the sophomore notched 20 digs with six assists and a pair of aces. Versus Xavier (W, 3-0), Solano Smith produced 14 digs with three assists and an ace.

BIG EAST Setter of the Week
Maddie Klungel, Sr., S, Seton Hall
Klungel averaged 10.67 assists per frame to set Seton Hall to a 2-0 weekend with sweeps of UConn and Providence. Against the Huskies, the setter dished out 31 assists with nine digs, three kills, and a pair of blocks. Facing the Friars, Klungel contributed a match-high 33 assists with 11 digs, four kills, and three blocks for her 10th double-double of the season.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Dionna Mitchell, Fr., OH, Georgetown
Mitchell led the BIG EAST this week, averaging 5.00 kills per set as Georgetown split the weekend. In Friday’s sweep of Providence, the rookie registered a match-best 16 kills with 11 digs, an assist, and an ace. Against UConn (L, 1-3), Mitchell notched 19 kills, 17 digs, and two assists.

Hanna Tylska, Jr., OH, UConn
Tylska averaged 4.14 kills per set over a weekend that saw the Huskies fall to Seton Hall (L, 0-3) before bouncing back to defeat Georgetown (W, 3-1). The junior logged a team-best 19 kills with 12 digs against the Hoyas.
Ava Martin, Jr., OH, Creighton
Martin contributed 4.00 kills per set on .446 hitting with 2.14 digs and 0.43 aces per frame to lead Creighton to a 2-0 weekend, highlighted by a 3-1 victory over RV Marquette. In Friday’s sweep of Butler, the junior registered 12 kills, four digs, and two blocks on .478 hitting. The win over the Bulldogs marked Creighton’s program-record 31st straight set victory. Against the Golden Eagles, Martin logged 16 kills, 11 digs, and two aces on .424 hitting.
Kendra Wait, Sr., S, Creighton
Wait averaged 10.14 assists, 3.14 digs, 1.57 blocks, 0.86 kills, and 0.43 aces per set as Creighton defeated Butler (W, 3-0) and Marquette (W, 3-1) this weekend. The standout setter extended her program record to 68 double-doubles in Sunday’s defeat of the Golden Eagles with 44 assists, 13 digs, five blocks, and two kills.
Emily Wen, So., S, Georgetown
Wen distributed a BIG EAST best 10.71 assists per set this weekend. In Friday’s sweep of Providence, the sophomore dished out a match-best 37 assists.
Senna Roberts-Navarro, So., OH, Seton Hall
Roberts-Navarro averaged 4.33 kills per set in a pair of Seton Hall sweeps. In Friday’s victory over UConn, she registered a match-high 14 kills with seven digs, a block, and an ace on .333 hitting. In Saturday’s defeat of Providence, the outside hitter once again led the match with 12 kills, adding eight digs over three sets.
