BIG EAST Teams Post 3-1 Wednesday

Creighton’s McDermott Sets School Victories Mark

MBB Minute – In Wednesday’s BIG EAST games, Creighton, St. John’s and Connecticut recorded victories while Seton Hall took its second straight one-point loss. Creighton coach Greg McDermott became the school’s all-time victories leader. All four BIG EAST opponents were held under 50 points.
 
No. 13 Creighton (3-0) cruised to a 78-43 win against visiting Houston Christian. Coach Greg McDermott became the school’s all-time wins leader with 328, passing Dana Altman. McDermott is 328-150 in his 15th season in Omaha. In the game, Ryan Kalkbrenner’s efficiency run continued. He was 6-of-6 from the floor and scored a team-high 16 points.
 
St. John’s used an 18-0 spurt midway in the second half to pull away from Wagner in a 66-45 win at Carnesecca Arena. RJ Luis Jr. led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points. The Johnnies (3-0) held the Seahawks to 29.1 percent shooting from the field. Aaron Scott added 11 points.
 
No. 3 UConn got rolling after the first media timeout and breezed past LeMoyne 90-49 at the XL Center. The Huskies (3-0), who own a 30-game home winning streak against non-conference foes, placed five players in double figures led by Alex Karaban’s 17 points. Reserve Tarris Reed Jr. contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Seton Hall lost its second straight game by one point, a 49-48 decision to Hofstra at Nassau Coliseum. Chaunce Jenkins scored a game-high 18 points. Dylan Addae-Wusu added 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. The Pirates (1-2) shot only 8-of-17 from the foul line.
 
Thursday’s schedule is dark, but Friday shows a strong four-game slate. At 5 p.m. ET on TNT, Villanova meets Virginia in a Hall of Fame series event in Baltimore. No. 15 Marquette plays at Maryland at 8 p.m. on FS1. FS2 has a doubleheader with Butler hosting SMU at 7 p.m. followed by Duquesne visiting unbeaten DePaul at 9 p.m.
