League Teams Post 4-1 Saturday; Jays, Musketeers, Pirates, Friars Win

MBB Minute – BIG EAST teams combined for a 4-1 record on Saturday with Creighton, Xavier, Seton Hall and Providence tasting victory. Georgetown lost at home to Notre Dame.

No. 14 Creighton (4-0) started quickly against Summit League favorite Kansas City and rolled to a 79-56 win at the CHI Health Center. Ryan Kalkbrenner made 6-of-8 from the field, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds. For the season, he is 41-of-46 (.891) from the floor and has 100 career games scoring in double figures.
 
Xavier held a steady lead throughout its 75-60 win over Wake Forest in the Skip Prosser Classic at Cintas Center. Ryan Conwell, who is the team’s top scorer (18.8), paced the Musketeers (4-0) with 21 points, four assists, three steals and no turnovers in 34 minutes. Dayvion McKnight added 13 points.
 
Seton Hall got back in the winning column with a 54-28 victory over Wagner at Walsh Gym. The 28-points are the fewest allowed by the Pirates (2-2) in over 75 years. Wagner was limited to only 14 points by halftime, the fewest yielded by Seton Hall since Feb. 28, 2004. Chaunce Jenkins led the scoring with 16 points.
 
Providence trailed Green Bay 48-43 at the first media timeout of the second half before recovering to record a 79-65 triumph at the AMP. The Friars (4-0) enjoyed a 27-9 edge in bench points and committed only six turnovers. PC’s Jayden Pierre scored a team-high 18 points.
 
Georgetown could not keep up with Notre Dame on the defensive end in an 84-63 loss at Capital One Arena. The Irish outshot the Hoyas (2-1) from the field 59.3 percent to 31.4 percent. Malik Mack led GU with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
 
The lone game on Sunday’s schedule has No. 22 St. John’s hosting New Mexico at noon ET on FS1. The game is a battle between head coaches Rick Pitino and his son Richard Pitino.
