Marquette’s Jones Has Triple-Double Versus Purdue

MBB Minute – BIG EAST teams put together a 5-0 Tuesday, which included No. 15 Marquette beating No. 6 Purdue that was highlighted by Kam Jones’ triple-double.
 
BIG EAST teams are 41-7 (.854) going into Wednesday.
 
Marquette ended Purdue’s 39-game non-conference winning streak with a 76-58 victory at Fiserv Arena. Jones recorded only the third triple-double in school history, finishing with 17 points, a career-high 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Stevie Mitchell added a career-high 21 points and made four steals. Purdue’s non-league winning streak was the fourth longest in NCAA history.
 
Villanova got back on the winning track in a big way with a 93-49 victory over visiting Penn in a Big 5 Classic game. The Wildcats (3-3) scored the last 17 points of the first half and held the Quakers without a field goal for 13 minutes. Eric Dixon led VU with 23 points and six rebounds. Wooga Poplar came off the bench to add 19 points.
 
Providence stayed unbeaten with a 78-48 win over Delaware State at the AMP. Freshman Oswin Erhunmwine led the Friars (5-0) with 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Providence has held all five opponents to under 70 points.
 
DePaul has a five-game winning streak for the first time since early in the 2021-22 season after a 78-69 victory over visiting Eastern Illinois. The Blue Demons (5-0) placed five players in double figures led by Jacob Meyer’s 16 points.
 
No. 2 UConn was not seriously challenged in an 81-46 win against East Texas A&M at Gampel Pavilion. For the first time, Solo Ball led the Huskies (4-0) in scoring. The sophomore finished with 12 points. UConn led 42-20 at the break.
 
Wednesday’s schedule shows two contests, both on FS1. Xavier hosts Siena at 6:30 p.m. ET and Georgetown hosts Mt. St. Mary’s at 8:30 p.m.
