MBB Minute – All three BIG EAST teams in action on Saturday picked up victories. DePaul and Marquette moved to 6-0 while Georgetown upped its record to 4-1.
With the 3-0 day, BIG EAST teams are 49-10 (.831) going into Sunday.
The
DePaul eye-opening start to the season continued with a 98-52 handling of Northern Illinois at Wintrust Arena. The victory margin was the largest for the Blue Demons in eight years. Guard Layden Blocker scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds. DePaul led 51-15 at halftime. Three other Blue Demons reached double figures.

Marquette defeated Georgia 80-69 at Paradise Island in the Bahamas. David Joplin scored a career-high 29 points, which included six 3-point baskets. Ben Gold and Chase Ross each helped with 14 points. Kam Jones had 10 points, seven assists and two steals. The Golden Eagles are 6-0 for the first time since 2011-12 when they started 10-0.
Georgetown pulled away from Saint Francis (Pa.) in the latter stages of the second half and registered an 82-65 victory at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas closed the game on a 26-8 run. Micah Peavy and Jayden Epps provided the offense with 24 and 23 points, respectively. Freshman Thomas Sorber had nine points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.

St. John’s will be a second straight BIG EAST opponent for Georgia in the Bahamas. CBSSN will televise at 11 a.m. ET.
Villanova meets Maryland in the Empire Classic at the Prudential Center. ESPN will televise at 1 p.m.
Seton Hall plays the third-place game of the Charleston Classic against FAU at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
