Marquette, Villanova Win On Six-Game Wednesday

MBB Minute – Marquette and Villanova, the only league teams playing at home, won on a six-game Wednesday.
 
No. 10 Marquette rolled past visiting Stonehill 94-59. The Golden Eagles (7-0) shot 60.7 percent from the floor. David Joplin made 10-of-12 from the field en route to 27 points, which included 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
 
Villanova was strong defensively in its 72-48 victory against Rider. The Wildcats (4-4) helped force 17 turnovers. They led 36-20 at the break. Eric Dixon scored 16 points and Jhamir Brickus added 15.
 
Providence lost 79-77 to Oklahoma in the first round of The Battle 4 Atlantis. Wesley Cardet had a team-high 17 points. Jayden Pierre and Bensley Joseph each added 16. Pierre’s long 3-point attempt at the buzzer hit the back rim. The Friars (5-1) play Davidson tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
 
Xavier also suffered its first defeat of the season, losing 78-53 to Michigan in the final of the Fort Myers Tip-Off. The Musketeers (6-1) got 19 points from Ryan Conwell, but they were guilty of 19 turnovers. Zach Freemantle added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
No. 21 Creighton had a one-point lead in the final minute, but the Bluejays (4-3) could not hold on in a 77-73 defeat versus No. 20 Texas A&M in the Players Era Festival. Pop Isacs had 25 points and six assists. Steven Ashworth returned after missing one game with a sprained ankle. Ryan Kalkbrenner finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.
 
No. 2 UConn lost its third game at the Maui Invitational, falling 85-67 to Dayton. Alex Karaban scored 21 points. The game was tied 43-43 with 16:46 left before the Flyers took the lead for good.
 
BIG EAST teams are 54-19 (.740) going into Thanksgiving Day.
 
In addition to Providence, Butler is the only other team in action on Thursday. The Bulldogs (4-1) meet Northwestern in the Arizona Tip-Off at 7 p.m. ET on CBSSN.
