Butler Trips Northwestern; Providence Falls On Turkey Day

Standings | Stats

MBB Minute – Butler and Providence were the two BIG EAST teams playing on Thanksgiving Day. The Bulldogs enjoyed whatever Thanksgiving meals they were able to have on a gameday while the Friars likely did not.

Butler never trailed in the second half against Northwestern, but the Bulldogs (5-1) had to survive multiple rally attempts in the final minute in a 71-69 victory in the Arizona Tip-Off. Jahmyl Telfort scored 23 points and dished six assists. Andre Screen added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Providence started slowly against Davidson in its second game of The Battle 4 Atlantis and lost 69-58. The Friars (5-2) trailed 38-18 at the break before playing a stronger second half. Jayden Pierre scored a team-high 14 points. Oswin Erhunmwunse pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

BIG EAST teams are 55-20 (.733) going into Friday.

Providence and Butler both face ranked opponents on Friday in their respective tournaments. The Friars have a quick turnaround with an 11 a.m. ET tip against No. 14 Indiana on ESPN2. The Bulldogs meet No. 25 Mississippi State at 9:30 p.m. on CBSSN.

Also, unbeaten DePaul (6-0) hosts Valparaiso at 1:30 p.m. on FS1.
