MBB Minute – On a three-game Friday, Butler knocked off No. 25 and previously undefeated Mississippi State to win the Arizona Tip-Off. DePaul remained unbeaten with a victory over Valparaiso. Providence lost to No. 14 Indiana in The Battle for Atlantis.
Butler won its first in-season tournament since the 2019 Hall of Fame Classic with its 87-77 win in a battle of two teams nicknamed the Bulldogs. Jahmyl Telfort scored a game-high 24 points and was named Tournament MVP. Pierre Brooks added 22 points and nine rebounds and made the All-Tournament Team. Butler (6-1) led throughout most of the game and used an 11-2 run to gain an 81-70 edge with 2:46 remaining.
DePaul defeated visiting Valparaiso 89-70 to improve to 7-0. The Blue Demons used an 18-2 run in the first half to take control of the contest. Isaiah Rivera made 7-of-10 from the field and finished with a team-high 19 points. New head coach Chris Holtmann is the first DePaul coach to start 7-0 since Ray Meyer in 1942-43.
Providence was not able to get a win in The Battle 4 Atlantis. The Friars lost 89-73 to No. 14 Indiana. Jayden Pierre scored a career-high 22 points and dealt six assists. PC had only seven turnovers, but was outshot from the floor 53.3 percent to 39.1 percent.
BIG EAST teams are 57-21 (.731) going into Saturday.

Seton Hall, Marquette, Georgetown, St. John’s and
UConn are back on campus.
Creighton is the only team away from home. The 21
st-ranked Bluejays meet Notre Dame in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas. The game tips at 1 p.m. ET. It will be carried on truTV and streamed on MAX.
