2024 BIG EAST Championship Semifinals Set for Thursday

BOYDS, Md. – The 2024 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship presented by JEEP continues on Thursday with the semifinals at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. In the first contest of the day No. 2 seed Xavier will face No. 6 seed DePaul slated for 5 p.m. ET, followed by No. 1 seed Georgetown playing No. 5 seed UConn at 7:30 p.m. Both semifinals will stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network, available on FloSports presented by Invesco QQQ. Semifinal winners advance to the title match on Sunday, Nov. 10, which is slated for a 11 a.m. start and will air on FS1. The winner of the BIG EAST Championship receives the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

DePaul and Xavier’s semifinals meeting will meet in the first semifinal game of the BIG EAST Championship. The Musketeers were the BIG EAST runner-up last season, making their third BIG EAST title match appearance. The Blue Demons claimed their spot in the semifinals by defeating No. 3-seeded Butler in penalty kick shootout Sunday, 3-3 (8-7). The Musketeers lead the all-time series against DePaul 7-4-2.
 
The Musketeers (14-3-2, 7-2-1 BE) are paced by three 20-point goal scorers, Samantha Wiehe (9G, 7A), Samantha Erbach (10G, 4A) and Emma Flick (6G, 8A). In net, Maria Galley allowed just 0.81 goals per game and corralled 48 saves.
 
DePaul (5-7-7, 3-3-4 BE) is led offensively by Freya Jupp with 15 points on six goals and three assists. In goal, Elena Milam started all 19 games with 77 saves and a 0.740 save percentage.

Xavier looks for a third straight trip to the BIG EAST title match, while DePaul looks to get back to the championship for the first time since 2014.

For the second consecutive postseason, UConn and Georgetown are meeting in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals. This will be the sixth matchup overall in BIG EAST Championship for the two schools, with the Huskies posting a 3-2 record over the Hoyas in their previous contests. UConn leads­­ the all-time series with Georgetown 12-8-1. The Hoyas (12-2-4, 8-1-1 BE) are the defending BIG EAST Champions, as they won their fourth consecutive conference title last season. Cara Martin was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year after posting a 0.20 GAA across 18 games this season. Offensively, BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Maja Lardner contributed a co-league best 27 points on 10 goals and seven assists.
 
The Huskies (11-4-4, 4-3-3 BE) moved into the semifinals with a 2-0 win over No. 4 seed Creighton. The Husky offense is paced by All-BIG EAST First Team selection Chioma Okafor. The junior has 12 goals and three assists on the season, good for a conference tying best 27 points. Kaitlyn Mahoney has logged 1,495 minutes in goal for UConn this season. The graduate student boasts a 0.96 GAA and is credited with 47 saves this season.

Georgetown looks to advance to its ninth straight BIG EAST title match and 10th overall, while UConn hopes to advance to its first BIG EAST title game since 2008. The Hoyas are 7-3-4 all-time in the conference tournament semifinals. On the other end the Huskies are 7-5-4 all-time in the BIG EAST Semifinals, as this is their record 24th appearance in the BIG EAST Championship.
