BIG EAST Teams Post 5-1 Saturday

MBB Minute – BIG EAST teams were a combined 5-1 on Saturday. Marquette, Georgetown, St. John’s, Creighton and Connecticut were winners by an average margin of victory of 25.0 points. Seton Hall lost to in-state foe Monmouth.
 
No. 10 Marquette had little trouble with Western Carolina in a 94-62 victory. The Golden Eagles (8-0) led 49-30 by halftime. Kam Jones paced the team with 20 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. Ben Gold added 12 points. Eleven Marquette players scored in the game.
 
Georgetown had a similar contest against UAlbany. The Hoyas (6-1) built a double-digit lead at halftime before pulling away for a 100-68 victory. Micah Peavy contributed across the board with a game-high 24 points, eight assists, four steals and three blocked shots.
 
No. 2 UConn defeated UMES 99-45 in Hartford. The Huskies (5-3) opened the game with a 30-8 run and cruised to victory. Jaylin Stewart and Liam McNeeley each scored 16 points.
 
The margin of victory for St. John’s defeating Harvard was closer with its 77-64 win, though the Johnnies led by as many as 18 points in the second half. RJ Luis Jr. contributed 24 points and 10 rebounds. It was his third 20-point double-double game of the season.
 
No. 21 Creighton had the closest victory, an 80-76 decision over Notre Dame in the Players Era Festival, but the Jays played without Ryan Kalkbrenner who was held out because of a lower body injury. Jamiya Neal and Fredrick King stepped up by scoring 21 and 14 points, respectively. Neal also had nine rebounds. King had five boards and five blocks.
 
Seton Hall struggled in a 63-51 loss to Monmouth. The Hall (4-4) shot 35.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line. Isaiah Coleman tied a career high with 20 points.
 
BIG EAST teams are 62-22 (.738) going into Sunday’s schedule, which shows only one game. Xavier hosts South Carolina State at 4:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
