UConn, Georgetown, DePaul Register Saturday Wins

MBB Minute – UConn, Georgetown and DePaul were the league winners on a busy Saturday.
 
No. 18 UConn (8-3) knocked off No. 8 Gonzaga 77-71 at a sold-out Madison Square Garden. Freshman Liam McNeeley was the Husky leader, registering 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
 
In the 100th meeting between Georgetown and Syracuse, the visiting Hoyas (8-2) won 75-71. Georgetown trailed most of the second half until a layup by Jayden Epps put the Hoyas ahead 70-69. Epps finished with 27 points and four assists.
 
After losing in OT to Providence on Tuesday, DePaul used a big second half to defeat Wichita State 91-72. The Blue Demons (8-2) outscored the Shockers 49-25 in the second half and set a school for a regulation game with 17 3-pointers.
 
No. 6 Marquette had a 13-point lead early in the second half at Dayton, but could not hold on, losing 71-63. Chase Ross scored a team-high 19 points.
 
Creighton lost 83-75 at No. 7 Alabama. Steve Ashworth led the Jays (7-4) with 20 points and nine assists.
 
Seton Hall (5-6) lost on a 3-pointer at the buzzer 66-63 in its annual meeting against Rutgers. Isaiah Coleman had 15 points, six rebounds and four steals.
 
Butler (7-4) lost to Wisconsin 83-74. Pierre Brooks netted a game-high 23 points.
 
Providence (7-5) played without Bryce Hopkins and lost 74-70 to St. Bonaventure. Wesley Cardet Jr. had 13 points.
 
BIG EAST teams are 81-36 (.692) against non-conference competition.
