Ransom, Makalusky Honored With Latest #BIGEASTwbb Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Kelsey Ransom, Georgetown, Sr., G
Ransom was instrumental in the 2-0 week for the Hoyas, highlighted by a career-best 31-point outing in Saturday’s win over Butler. Against the Bulldogs, who entered the game as winners of four straight, the senior guard filled the stat sheet with 31 points, five assists and four steals, shooting 9-14 from the field (.643) while finishing with a 13-of-14 clip from the free-throw line. The 31-point showing was the most by any BIG EAST player last week. Prior to Saturday’s performance, Ransom helped the Hoyas to a road win at St. John’s with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. In the 2-0 week, Ransom averaged 21.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals to finish in the top five among all league players in scoring, assists and steals. With the two victories, Georgetown improved to 18-10 on the year, marking its most regular-season wins since 2011-12, when they headed into the BIG EAST Tournament with 22 victories.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Riley Makalusky, Butler, Fr., G/F
Makalusky was the top scoring freshman in the BIG EAST last week, while finishing in the top 10 overall, averaging 17.0 points to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. The guard/forward had her top showing in BIG EAST play thus far on Saturday at Georgetown, tallying 21 points off 8-of-10 shooting, including a 5-of-6 mark from three, while adding two rebounds, a steal and an assist. In Wednesday’s win over Xavier, Makalusky had 13 points off 4-of-8 shooting to go along with four rebounds and three assists. She is Butler’s first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week this season.

Paige Bueckers, UConn – BIG EAST’s No. 2 scorer in a 2-0 week with 27.0 points along with 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals; 30 points off 9-of-15 shooting at DePaul on Sunday
Lauren Jensen, Creighton, Sr., G – 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals in a 1-1 week; 18 points, five rebounds, three assists at No. 15 UConn, followed by 20 points, four assists in Saturday’s win over Villanova
Liza Karlen, Marquette, Sr., F – back-to-back double-doubles in a 2-0 week, averaging 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and .536 shooting; 23 points, 10 boards against Seton Hall, followed by 11 points, 10 rebounds at Xavier
Jillian Archer, St. John’s, Grad., F – 10 points, 11.5 rebounds and .588 shooting in a 1-1 week; 10-point, 14-rebound double-double at Georgetown and 10 points, nine boards as the Red Storm beat Providence to clinch a BIG EAST Tournament First Round bye
Lucy Olsen, Villanova, Jr., G – BIG EAST’s leading scorer with 28.0 points along with 5.0 assists; 30 points and five assists in win over Providence followed by 26 points, five dishes in setback at No. 21 Creighton
