Xavier’s Olivari Named Player of the Week

UConn’s Castle Takes Sixth Freshman Honor

NEW YORK – Xavier guard Quincy Olivari has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and for a sixth time this season Connecticut guard Stephon Castle had been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Olivari’s week included a 43-point performance and Castle helped the Huskies to a 2-0 week.
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Quincy Olivari, Xavier, G, Gr. – Olivari averaged 33.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 2-0 week. He poured in a collegiate career-high 43 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 93-68 win at DePaul. The 43 points was the highest total in a BIG EAST game since DePaul’s Max Strus had 43 against St. John’s on March 3, 2019. In an 88-77 home win earlier in the week against St. John’s, Olivari had 23 points, seven rebounds and four steals. For the two games, he made 11-of-20 from 3-point range.  
    
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Stephon Castle, UConn, G, Fr. – Castle wins Freshman honors for the sixth time this season and the fifth time in the last six weeks. In a 2-0 week, Castle recorded consecutive career scoring highs with 20 points in a 74-65 win over Providence and 21 points in a 77-64 victory at St. John’s. For the two games, he shot 53.8 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from 3-point range.
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Jahmyl Telfort, Butler, G-F, Sr. – Tied his season scoring high with 26 points in a victory at Creighton (99-98). Made 12-of-17 from the floor, had four assists and no turnovers. 
 
Tristen Newton, UConn, G, Gr. – Recorded two double-doubles in a 2-0 week. Averaged 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. In a win over St. John’s (77-64), had 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
 
Tyler Kolek, Marquette, G, Sr. – Averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a 2-0 week. In a win at Villanova (85-80), had 32 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Posted 17 points and eight assists in a victory at Georgetown (91-57).
 
Dre Davis, Seton Hall, G-F, Sr. – Notched his first career double-double with game highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds in a win at DePaul (72-39). Also had three steals and two blocked shots.
 
Eric Dixon, Villanova, F, R-Sr. – Averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had 24 points, six rebounds and no turnovers in a loss to Marquette (85-80).
