Georgetown Upsets No. 2 Creighton for First Ever #BIGEASTwbb Championship Appearance

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Kelsey Ransom had 14 points and six assists as sixth-seeded Georgetown defeated No. 2 Creighton 55-46 in the semifinals of the BIG EAST women's basketball tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Georgetown held Creighton, one of the best three-point shooting teams in the BIG EAST, to just 5 of 26 from 3-point range as the Hoyas, one of four teams to play in every BIG EAST tournament, advanced to the title game for the first time in program history.

The Hoyas will meet three-time defending champion UConn in Monday's 7 p.m. title game that will air live on FS1.

Georgetown (22-10), which eliminated the No. 2 and 3 seeds in the tournament, scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to push a three-point halftime advantage to 13 points after a 3-pointer by Alex Cowan.

Creighton (25-5) pulled within six points in the fourth quarter but missed 10 of its 12 field-goal attempts in the final quarter.

Cowan finished with 12 points while Graceann Bennett and Mya Bembry combined for 16 points and 21 rebounds for the Hoyas.

Morgan Maly led Creighton with 14 points and six rebounds.
