UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Paige Bueckers had 27 points to lead top-seeded UConn to a 58-29 win over No. 5 seed Marquette in the semifinals of the BIG EAST women's basketball tournament on Sunday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena as the Huskies advanced to a conference title game for the 20
th-consecutive season.
The shorthanded Huskies, without All-BIG EAST forward Aaliyah Edwards, had just seven available players in Sunday’s semifinals.
Bueckers nearly outscored Marquette by herself while she added 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and four blocked shots. Ice Brady, who made her second start of the season, had 10 points and five rebounds for UConn (28-5) which will face either Creighton or Georgetown in Monday's title game at 7 p.m. ET.
Marquette (23-8) missed its first 11 field goal attempts, but UConn struggled from the field early as well as the Huskies led 9-0 when Liza Karlen scored the first basket for the Golden Eagles. Karlen led Marquette with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Golden Eagles were held scoreless in the fourth quarter, marking the fewest points in a period in BIG EAST tournament history.
UConn has reached a conference tournament championship game in every season since falling to Boston College in the 2004 BIG EAST semifinals.
