UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Top-seeded Connecticut defeated sixth-seeded Georgetown, 78-42, Monday night at Mohegan Sun Arena to win the 2024 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by JEEP. It marks the Huskies fourth consecutive BIG EAST Tourney title and 22nd overall. Redshirt-junior guard Paige Bueckers was named BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player after averaging 27.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.0 blocks per game over three postseason wins.

Fellow Huskies Ice Brady (10.3 points, 5.3 rebounds) and Nika Muhl (7.0 points, 6.3 assists) were named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, along with Georgetown’s Kelsey Ransom (11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists), Providence’s Grace Efosa (18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds) and Creighton’s Morgan Maly (18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds).

UConn (29-5, 18-0 BIG EAST) jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back, with Georgetown (22-11, 9-9) never getting closer than nine the rest of the way. The Huskies shot .441 from the field while holding the Hoyas to a .320 clip. Both teams were without key pieces, with UConn’s Aaliyah Edwards getting injured in the Quarterfinal win against Providence, and GU’s Brianna Scott, the BIG EAST Sixth Woman of the Year, suffering an injury in yesterday’s Semifinal victory over Creighton.

Bueckers finished with game highs of 27 points and five blocks, becoming just the third player in BIG EAST history to collect BIG EAST Player of the Year, BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year and BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors in the same season (UConn’s Maya Moore, 2011; UConn’s Rebecca Lobo, 1994). She is also just the third player to be named Tournament Most Outstanding Player multiple times (Villanova’s Shelly Pennefather, 1986 & 1987; UConn’s Kara Wolters, 1995 & 1996).

Graceann Bennett and Mya Bembry tied for the Georgetown game high with 12 points apiece, while Ransom finished with nine points, six rebounds and three assists. The Hoyas had advanced to the BIG EAST title game for the first time in program history and were the lowest seed to make the final since seventh-seeded Creighton in 2016.

UConn earns the BIG EAST’s automatic bid into the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The 2024 NCAA DI Women's Basketball March Madness bracket will be revealed during the Selection Show at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 17 on ESPN, with additional BIG EAST teams awaiting at-large bids. The Conference sent five teams to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
