Marquette’s Ighodaro Named Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

NEW YORK – Marquette forward Oso Ighodaro has been named BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The selection was made by the Conference’s Academic Affairs Committee.

Ighodaro will receive a $2,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies.

Ighodaro compiled a 3.54 undergraduate grade point average as a Finance major. As a graduate student, his GPA is 3.80. He earned his undergraduate degree in 2023 in only three years and started his MBA work in the summer of 2023. He will complete his MBA this summer, completing the program in only one year.

On the court, Ighodaro has been a prime contributor to the Golden Eagles’ success, which includes a 23-8 overall record, a 14-6 BIG EAST mark and a No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. A 6-11 forward from Chandler, Ariz., he was named All-BIG EAST Second Team earlier this week. He is averaging 14.4 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per game, while making 60.8 percent of his shots from the field.

The BIG EAST Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is one of a number of scholarships presented by the BIG EAST Conference during the 2023-24 academic year. In addition, 22 student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST’s 11 member institutions) will receive postgraduate scholarships as the winners of their respective institutions’ Scholar-Athlete Award. The winners of the institutional and basketball awards are then eligible for the BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which provides an additional postgraduate scholarship to one male and one female student-athlete.
