BIG EAST Player of the Week
Rosie Garcia, Jr., INF, UConn
Garcia logged six hits, producing eight RBI and five runs on four homers, as UConn picked up four victories this week. Overall, the junior owned a slash line of .353/1.059/.421. In Friday’s series opener against BIG EAST opponent Butler, Garcia contributed two homeruns, including the first grand slam of her career, to lead UConn to its 12
th straight victory. On Saturday, the infielder slammed her fourth homer in three games to help the Huskies secure the series win.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Alyssa Twomey, Fr., P, Providence
Twomey pitched three victories this week, owning a 0.31 ERA across 22.1 innings. The freshman struck out 28 batters in total as Providence picked up a pair of midweek victories over Stonehill before besting BIG EAST opponent, St. John’s, twice over the weekend. Twomey tossed a complete-game five-inning shutout against Stonehill (W, 9-0) on Wednesday, striking out eight without allowing an earned run. In Friday’s series opener against St. John’s, the rookie struck out eight over five innings of work (L, 2-3). In the second half of the day’s doubleheader, Twomey tossed a complete-game victory, once again striking out eight while allowing just one earned run (W, 2-1). The Rhode Island native concluded the series on Sunday with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings of work without allowing an earned run (W, 2-1).
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Elizabeth Gray, Fr., OF, Villanova
Gray went 5-for-9 (.556) with three RBI and four runs scored as Villanova enjoyed an undefeated week highlighted by a three-game sweep of fellow BIG EAST competitor, Georgetown. The Wildcat starting center fielder had a banner day on Friday, driving home a run on an RBI double in the first game before producing the first three-hit effort of her career in the night game, including a two-run triple.
Honor Roll
Hallie Siems, Sr., P, UConn
In three starts this week, Siems owned a 0.51 ERA, giving up just one run in 13.2 innings pitched and striking out 18. In the Huskies’ midweek victory over Central Connecticut, the senior tallied a season-high ten strikeouts in five innings.
London Jarrard, Jr., SS, St. John’s
Jarrard went 9-for-18 (.500) this week, including two doubles, two runs scored, and three runs batted. The junior scored the winning run in Friday’s 3-2 nine-inning victory over Providence.
Kelsey Carr, Sr., P, Seton Hall
Carr owned a 1.68 ERA with two wins over 16.2 innings pitched. The senior struck out 27, including a career-high 12 strikeouts in a complete game shutout at Rider on Tuesday. Against Creighton on Friday, Carr repeated this performance with another 12 strikeouts.
Olivia Gilbert, Jr., INF, Seton Hall
Gilbert batted .462 (6-for-13) with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored, and six RBI as Seton Hall went 4-1, including a 2-1 series victory against Creighton, this week.
Grace Reed, Fr., INF, Villanova
Reed hit .500 across Villanova’s four victories this week, producing two doubles, two home runs, three runs scored, and seven RBI. Notably, the infielder contributed a three-hit, five-RBI performance against Saint Joe’s on Wednesday with a first-inning grand slam plus a double.
