Marquette Wins Defensive Battle to Move into #BIGEASTwbb Semifinals

Marquette held on for a 50-48 win over No. 4 Villanova in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST women's basketball tournament at Mohegan
Sun Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Marquette (23-7) took a three-point lead on a 3-pointer from Mackenzie Hare with 21 seconds left to play before Jordan King added a pair of free throws to push the lead to five points. Olsen responded with a 3-pointer to make it a one-possession game in the final minute.

Liza Karlen had 13 points to lead the Golden Eagles while Skylar Forbes had 12 points and Hare added 10 points as Marquette moves on to face UConn in the semifinals on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on FS1. 

Olsen finished with 22 points for the Wildcats. Villanova (18-12) jumped out to the early five-point lead behind six points from Olsen.

Marquette got seven points from Karlen in the first quarter and headed into the second quarter with a 15-12 lead after a three-point play from Forbes.

Villanova did not regain the lead until a 3-pointer by Olsen with 6:41 left in the third quarter.
