Creighton, DePaul, St. John’s, and Xavier Earn First #BIGEASTvb Awards in Conference Play

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Giorgia Walther, Sr., OH, St. John’s
Walter totaled 33 kills, 13 digs, four blocks, and an ace as St. John’s opened BIG EAST play 2-0 with victories over Seton Hall (3-1) and Georgetown (3-0). The senior’s 4.71 kills per set led all conference competitors this week. Against the Pirates, Walther notched a match-best 22 kills on .333 hitting with seven digs and a block. In Sunday’s sweep of the Hoyas, she contributed 11 kills, six digs, three blocks, and a service ace.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Rachel Krasowski, Gr., L, DePaul
Krasowski was the cornerstone of a Blue Demon defense that gave up just one set in a pair of league matches, averaging a BIG EAST best 4.86 digs per set this week. In Wednesday’s conference-opening victory over Xavier (3-1), the graduate student contributed 22 digs and four assists. At Butler (W, 3-0), Krasowski logged 12 digs with three assists.

BIG EAST Setter of the Week
Kendra Wait, Sr., S, Creighton
Wait averaged a league-leading 11.67 assists per set, helping Creighton hit a combined .423 in a pair of sweeps to open BIG EAST play. In Friday’s 3-0 victory over Providence, the senior dished out 29 assists with five digs, three kills, and a pair of blocks. In Sunday’s sweep of UConn, Wait recorded 41 assists, eight digs, three blocks, and a kill.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Margo Kemp, RS-Fr., MB, Xavier
Kemp was an all-around threat for the Musketeers, averaging 3.00 kills and .86 blocks per set this weekend. In Wednesday’s conference-opener at DePaul (L, 3-1), the Pennsylvania product registered 10 kills, a match-high six blocks, and two digs on .350 hitting. In Saturday’s sweep of Butler, Kemp led all competitors with 11 kills on .500 hitting, adding four digs and two aces.

Honor Roll
Jill Pressly, Gr., OH, DePaul
Pressly totaled 30 kills and 20 digs as DePaul opened BIG EAST play 2-0. The graduate outside hitter logged 17 kills and 12 digs against Xavier (W, 3-1) for her sixth double-double of the season.
Hattie Bray, RS-Jr., MB, Marquette
Bray hit .500 with eight kills and eight digs as Marquette opened BIG EAST play without giving up a set, defeating UConn (3-0) and Providence (3-0) this weekend. She was especially effective against the Friars, logging six kills on 11 errorless swings.
Erin Jones, Jr., S/RS, St. John’s
Jones continued an electric campaign for the Red Storm, contributing 33 digs, 29 kills, 14 assists, two aces, and two blocks over a pair of victories this weekend. In a 3-1 victory over Seton Hall, Jones produced a match-leading 18 digs with 16 kills for her seventh double-double of the season. Her eighth double-double followed in Sunday’s sweep of Georgetown behind 15 digs and 13 kills.
Ozzie Ozonoh, Sr., MB, Villanova
Ozonoh averaged a team-best 1.14 blocks per set with 15 kills on .433 hitting as Villanova opened BIG EAST play undefeated. The senior middle blocker enjoyed a career day against Seton Hall (W, 3-1) with a personal high of eight kills to go along with a match-best five blocks, three of which were solo stops.
Sarah Stevens, RS-Sr., MB, Xavier
Stevens hit a massive .609 this weekend, totaling 16 kills and eight blocks in matches against Butler (W, 3-0) and DePaul (L, 3-1).
