Marquette Trips DePaul In OT; St. John’s, Xavier, Creighton Win At Home

NEW YORK – DePaul took No. 7 Marquette into overtime Tuesday before the Golden Eagles could escape Wintrust Arena with a two-point win. St. John’s and Xavier used second-half rallies to gain victories and homestanding Creighton knocked off visiting Providence.
 
Marquette forward David Joplin scored 30 points, which included seven 3-pointers, to propel the Golden Eagles (15-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) past DePaul 85-83. Joplin scored eight points in the OT. Kam Jones contributed 18 points, 11 assists and six rebounds. CJ Gunn led the Blue Demons (7-11, 0-7) with 21 points and seven rebounds. Isaiah Rivera came off the bench to add 20 points. The game had 12 lead changes and seven ties.
 
St. John’s rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second half to defeat Georgetown 63-58 at Madison Square Garden. The Johnnies (15-3, 6-1) were led by RJ Luis Jr.’s 19 points and are off to their best start in BIG EAST play since 1999. Micah Perry had a team-high 21 points for the Hoyas (12-5, 3-3).
 
Xavier used a 12-2 run in the final two minutes to defeat Villanova 69-62. Ryan Conwell snapped out of a short shooting slump to score 34 points for the Musketeers (11-7, 3-4), including 16 points over the final five minutes. Eric Dixon and Jordan Longino each had 18 points for the Wildcats (11-7, 4-3).
 
Creighton had good bench support in its 84-64 victory over Providence. Isaac Traudt and Mason Miller combined for six second half 3-pointers to fuel the Bluejays (11-6, 4-2). Starters Ryan Kalkbrenner and Steven Ashworth both led Creighton with 20 points each. Providence (9-9, 3-4) had three different players finish with 10 points, Wesley Cardet Jr., Ryan Mela and Corey Floyd Jr.
 
One game is scheduled for Wednesday night, as Seton Hall travels to Indianapolis to face Butler. The contest is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. on FS1. Isaiah Coleman leads the Pirates with 23.2 points per game in conference play. For the Bulldogs, Jahmyl Telfort leads the way with 14.2 ppg in league action.
