Hoyas Rally Past Wildcats; Tuesday Slate Has Three Games

MBB Minute – In Monday’s lone contest, Georgetown scored the game’s last nine points to post a 64-63 victory against Villanova at Finneran Pavilion.
 
Georgetown (13-6, 4-4 BIG EAST) went home with a win after Micah Peavy connected on two baskets in the final minute, including a driving layup with 1.8 seconds remaining. Villanova (12-8, 5-4) had a baseline jumper attempt by Eric Dixon go off the rim at the buzzer.
 
The Hoyas trailed 42-29 in the second half before starting their comeback. Peavy finished with a team-high 24 points, which included 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Thomas Sorber recorded his sixth double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Dixon, the nation’s leading scorer, had 29 points, six rebounds and three assists for VU.
 
The Tuesday schedule starts with No. 19 Connecticut hosting Butler at XL Center at 7 p.m. ET on FS1. The Huskies (13-5, 5-2) won the first meeting 78-74 on Dec. 21 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs (8-10, 1-6) are coming off an 82-77 victory over Seton Hall last Wednesday. UConn wants to bounce back from a 68-63 home loss to Creighton.
 
No. 10 Marquette also wants to get back in the winning column when it visits Seton Hall at 8 p.m. on Peacock. The Golden Eagles (15-3, 6-1) lost 59-57 to Xavier at home on Saturday. The Pirates (6-12, 1-6) want to end a three-game losing streak. The Hall beat Marquette 78-75 last year at Prudential Center.
 
Creighton travels to DePaul. FS1 will televise at 9 p.m. The Bluejays (12-6, 5-2) have not lost at DePaul since the BIG EAST reconfigured in 2013-14. Ryan Kalkbrenner ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring (17.7), second in rebounding (8.4) and first in blocked shots (2.9). The Blue Demons (10-9, 1-7) are coming off a 73-68 win at Georgetown on Friday and are 9-4 at home.
