BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Minute: Bueckers Makes History; Wednesday Slate Features Five Games

Bueckers Achieves Career Milestone
Paige Bueckers continues to write her name in the history books as she became UConn’s 12th all-time 2,000-point scorer on Sunday. She is the fastest Husky to reach the milestone, doing so in 102 games. Bueckers is also one of three players in program history, joining Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore, with 2,000+ points, 400+ rebounds, 400+ assists, and 200+ steals.
 
UConn Ranked #6 In AP Poll; Creighton Receiving Votes
UConn is ranked sixth in the nation as this week’s Associated Press Top 25 Women’s Basketball Poll was announced on Monday. This week’s ranking marked the Huskies 630th appearance in the poll under head coach Geno Auriemma’s leadership. With a 7-0 mark in league play, Creighton is receiving votes for the second-straight week.
 
BIG EAST Road Trip Returns
The “BIG EAST Road Trip” is set to deliver another round of interactive experiences, traveling to each city for men’s and women’s basketball matchups and concluding at the men’s and women’s conference tournaments in March. The tour will feature two hours of pre-game entertainment and activities at each stop, including free throw challenges, spirit squad and mascot appearances, photo opportunities with the BIG EAST championship trophy, and school-specific activations tailored to each campus. This Week in BIG EAST Play
This week features another 10 conference games starting with Marquette at Providence on Wednesday, January 22 at 11 a.m. ET on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports presented by Invesco QQQ. There are three games at 7 p.m. – Villanova at UConn (SNY), St. John’s at Georgetown (BEDN) and Creighton at Butler (BEDN). Xavier at DePaul rounds out Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on BEDN. Saturday’s slate includes four games – St. John’s at Seton Hall (1 p.m. – BEDN), Xavier at Villanova (2 p.m. – BEDN), Georgetown at Marquette (3 p.m. – BEDN), and UConn at Creighton (5:30 p.m. – FOX). Sloane Martin Kim Adams will be on the call for the UConn-Creighton game. DePaul at Butler finishes the weekend at 2 p.m. on BEDN.

Three UConn players scored double digits in the team’s dominant 96-36 win versus Seton Hall. Sarah Strong recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Strong finished 9-for-11 from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point land. Bueckers finished with 18 points and seven assists as she eclipsed 2,000 career points. Azzi Fudd had her fourth-straight double-digit scoring game with 18 points, 12 coming from 3-pointers. Aubrey Griffin had three points, four rebounds and two assists in 11 minutes in her first game since Jan. 3, 2024, due to injury. Jada Eads led the Pirates with 14 points, four rebounds and four steals while Faith Masonius had eight points, six boards and three assists. Seton Hall forced 13 turnovers.
