NEW YORK – UConn freshman forward Sarah Strong swept this week’s BIG EAST Player and Freshman honors for the third time this season, announced on Monday. Strong led the Huskies to wins over Creighton and Villanova averaging a team-high 24.0 points and 8.0 rebounds on .630 shooting from the floor.
Creighton senior forward Morgan Maly, DePaul graduate student forward Jorie Allen, Georgetown graduate student guard Kelsey Ransom, Marquette sophomore forward Skylar Forbes, and Villanova freshman guard Jasmine Bascoe were named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player and Freshman of the Week
Sarah Strong, UConn, Fr., F
In the 72-61 triumph over Creighton, Strong led all players in points (26), rebounds (12), steals (5), and blocks (4). Strong shot 9-for-17 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Earlier in the week, she led UConn to a 100-57 victory against Villanova with 22 points on 80% shooting. She finished the 2-0 week averaging a team-high 24.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game on a .630/.500/.923 shooting split. She added 4.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 3.5 steals per game.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Morgan Maly, Creighton, Sr., F
Maly finished the 1-1 week with 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. The senior recorded a game-high 24 points in the 63-52 win at Butler.
Jorie Allen, DePaul, Gr., F
Allen averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists, including .950 shooting from the line as DePaul went 2-0 against Xavier and Butler. In the 74-67 overtime win at Butler, she recorded a career-high 34 points on 50% field-goal shooting and went 12-for-12 from the line. She added seven rebounds and five assists in 45 minutes of action.
Kelsey Ransom, Georgetown, Gr., G
Ransom averaged 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week for the Hoyas. She was a perfect 12-12 at the line for the week. Ransom led the Hoyas with 28 points and scored the game-winning layup in the final three seconds in the 56-54 win over St. John’s.
Skylar Forbes, Marquette, So., F
Forbes scored a game-high 23 points in the 67-54 road win at Providence as she finished the week averaging 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals.
Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova, Fr., G
Bascoe capped a 1-1 week averaging 20 points on 15-for-27 shooting (.555) from the field and 6-for-10 (.600) from three.
