Road Teams Sweep Tuesday; St. John’s, Marquette Stay Tied For First

MBB Minute – Road teams won all three games Tuesday as most of the league squads reached the halfway point in their league campaigns.
 
No. 15 St. John’s rolled to a 66-41 victory at Georgetown. The Johnnies (18-3, 9-1 BIG EAST) have won 13 of their last 14 games and are 9-1 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 1984-85 when they won the regular-season. Their current seven-game league winning streak is their longest since 2011. In the game, they rocketed to a 24-3 start and held the Hoyas (13-8, 4-6) to 24.1 percent shooting for the game. Zuby Ejiofor and Kadary Richmond shared the team scoring lead with 13 points each. Malik Mack also led the Hoyas with 13 points.
 
No. 9 Marquette stayed even with St. John’s in first place with a come-from-behind 78-69 victory at Butler. The Golden Eagles (18-3, 9-1) trailed 42-35 at the break. They scored the first six points of the second half and held the Bulldogs (9-12, 2-8) to 25.8 percent shooting after halftime. Stevie Mitchell led MU with 22 points. BU’s Jahmyl Telfort led all scorers with 24 points.
 
Providence built a 15-point edge in the second half, lost the lead, then recovered to take a 69-67 win at Seton Hall. PC regained the lead in the final five minutes. Jayden Pierre led the Friars (11-10, 5-5) with 16 points. Four other PC players reached double figures. Jabri Abdur-Rahim added 13 points in 14 minutes off the bench. Prince Aligbe sparked the Pirates (6-15, 1-9) with a game-high 19 points.  
 
Two games are set for Wednesday. Xavier plays at Creighton on FS1 and DePaul travels to No. 25 UConn on Peacock. Both games tip at 8 p.m. ET. The Bluejays (14-6, 7-2) have won five in a row and the Musketeers (13-8, 5-5) have taken four of their last five with the loss coming in overtime. The Blue Demons (10-11, 1-9) are second in the league in 3-pointers made with a 10.05 average. The Huskies (14-6, 6-3) have lost three of their last five games by a total of 10 points.
