Doug Bruno and Terry Cummings to Appear on Naismith Hall of Fame Ballot

CHICAGO –  A pair of DePaul legends in women's basketball head coach Doug Bruno and men's basketball alumni Terry Cummings, will appear on the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame ballot for 2025. The pair both return to the ballot after also receiving nominations in 2024.

Finalists for the Naismith Hall of Fame will be announced Feb. 14 during NBA All-Star Weekend and the entire class of 2025 will be announced on April 5 during the NCAA Final Four. Enshrinement weekend for the 2025 class will begin Sept. 5 with the Tip-Off Celebration followed by the Enshrinement ceremony on Sept. 6 in Springfield, Mass.

Bruno has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in the game of women's basketball with over 45 years of experience, including 39 at his alma mater. He ranks 18th all-time among Division I women's coaches with 786 collegiate victories. He has led the Blue Demons to 25 NCAA appearances and four Sweet Sixteen's. A three-time WBCA National Coach of the Year, Bruno also completed a two-year term as president of the WBCA in the summer of 2007 and has also served on the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Committee, the Wade Trophy committee and the WBCA Ethics Committee.

A staunch advocate for women's sports and the growth of the game, his Doug Bruno Basketball Camp has taught over 82,000 Chicagoland girls since 1980. He was enshrined into the women's basketball Hall of Fame in June of 2022 in Knoxville, Tenn. and has previously been inducted into the DePaul Athletics, Chicagoland Sports, IBCA, and National Italian-American Sports Hall of Fames.

He was a three-year letter winner for DePaul and Hall of Fame coach Ray Meyer after playing high school basketball at Quigley South for the legendary Dick Flaiz. Bruno was a two-year starter at DePaul and led the 1971-72 squad in assists. He received his B.A. in English in 1973, and later returned to earn his M.A. in English in 1988.

Cummings long-list of accolades includes an 18-year career where he was the 1983 NBA Rookie of the Year and a three-time All-NBA honoree. Throughout his NBA career, Cummings accumulated 19,460 career points, 8,630 career rebounds and 1,255 career steals. He finished in the top-10 NBA scoring two separate times, while his point total remains among the top-65 all-time in the NBA.

Despite only playing three seasons at DePaul, Cummings legacy was long felt and ultimately solidified forever as his jersey was retired in the rafters of Wintrust Arena in February 2024. Cummings contributed 1,3898 points, 857 total rebounds, 144 assists and 112 blocks throughout his DePaul career. His rebounds remain among the top-10 marks in program history. Cummings was a consensus first team All-American in 1982 and helped lead DePaul to the three-straight NCAA Tournament Round of 32.
