NEW YORK -- The 2025 NCAA Cross Country Regional championships will be held on Friday, Nov. 14. BIG EAST teams will race in four different regions to determine the field for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Entering regional championship weekend, Butler is ranked 14th and Georgetown is receiving votes on the latest national coaches' poll. On the women's poll, Georgetown is ranked 12th and Villanova is 19th.
Across nine regions nationwide, the men will run in a 10 kilometer race, while women will compete in six kilometer races. The top two teams in each Regional secure automatic bids to the championship. If a team doesn't secure an automatic bid, it will have to rely on the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee to select it as one of the 13 at-large teams.
Individually, the first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an auto-bid to the championships. Only two individual at-larges are selected, making a strong regional performance pivotal to advancing toward a national title. The NCAA DI Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Gans Creek Cross Country course in Columbia, Mo.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional will be held at the Goodman course in Bethlehem, Pa. The field will men’s and women’s teams from Georgetown, Seton Hall and Villanova. The women’s race starts at noon while the men’s race starts at 1 p.m. ET.
On the men's side, Georgetown is ranked second and Villanova fourth in the regional rankings entering Saturday's race. The two teams placed second and third at the BIG EAST Championship on Oct. 31. A season ago, Villanova captured the 2024 NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional title. For the women, BIG EAST Champion Georgetown is ranked third, followed by conference runner-up Villanova in fourth. Last year, the Hoyas were second and Villanova fifth in the regional team results.
Butler, Marquette and Xavier will compete in the Great Lakes Regional at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Indiana. The men's race starts at 11 a.m. local time, followed by the women’s race starts at noon.
Following its fourth BIG EAST Championship in six years, the Butler men - led by individual champion William Zegarski - are ranked second in the Great Lakes regional poll. Last year, the Butler men placed third; in 2023, the Bulldogs won the Great Lakes Regional for the first time in program history. The Xavier women check in at 10th on the Great Lakes poll entering Friday's race.
The Northeast Regional will be held at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Contocook, N.H. and will feature women’s teams from Connecticut, Providence and St. John’s and the men from Providence. The women’s race starts at 11 a.m. ET and the men’s race starts at noon.
The Friar women - third place finishers at the 2025 BIG EAST Championship - are third on the Northeast regional rankings, followed by the Huskies in fifth. On the men's side, Providence checks in at seventh on the regional poll.
Creighton and DePaul are competing in the Midwest Regional, held at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla. The women’s race starts at 9 a.m. local time while the men’s race starts at 10 a.m. local time - earlier than originally scheduled due to predicted high temperatures.
