NEW YORK – UConn sophomore forward Sarah Strong averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.0 blocks and 4.5 steals per game in another 2-0 week to be named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second-straight week. Teammate freshman forward Blanca Quiñonez averaged 11.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals for the Huskies to nab freshman of the week.
Marquette graduate student guard Lee Volker, Providence graduate student guard Sabou Gueye, Seton Hall sophomore guard Jada Eads, Villanova sophomore guard Jasmine Bascoe and Xavier junior guard Mariyah Noel were named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Sarah Strong, UConn, So., F
Strong averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.0 blocks and 4.5 steals per game on a .630/.429/1.000 shooting split in wins over Loyola Chicago (85-31) and Ohio State (100-68). Against Loyola Chicago, she had 11 points, four assists, three blocks, and four steals. Strong then tied her career high with 29 points and set a career high with seven assists versus Ohio State. She added 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, to go with three blocks and five steals.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Blanca Quiñonez, UConn, Fr., F
Quiñonez averaged 11.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals in the pair of wins over Loyola Chicago and Ohio State. She finished the week with a .563/.600/1.000 shooting split. The freshman scored 18 points against Ohio State on 7-for-11 shooting with four rebounds.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Lee Volker, Marquette, Gr., G
Volker led Marquette to a 71-55 win over Bowling Green with 23 points and seven rebounds. Earlier in the week, she recorded a team-high 13 points at Minnesota to go along with three rebounds and two assists.
Sabou Gueye, Providence, Gr., G
Gueye averaged a double-double from the guard spot with 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. She helped PC defeat regional foe Boston College for the first time since 2019 as she recorded her first double-double as a Friar (16 pts, 12 rbs).
Jada Eads, Seton Hall, So., G
Eads had a strong week for the Pirates in a pair of West Coast victories over San Francisco (80-66) and Pacific (76-57). On Friday at San Francisco, she had a team-high 16 points to go with five assists and three rebounds. On Sunday, Eads filled the box score with 14 points, three rebounds, five assists and a career-high six steals.
Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova, So., G
Bascoe averaged 16.5 points in a 1-1 week for Villanova. In the team’s 84-73 win over James Madison, she finished with 17 points and connected on a season-high three three-pointers, to go with a season-high four assists.
Mariyah Noel, Xavier, Jr., G
Noel averaged a team-high 17.5 points and 4.0 assists per game against Dayton and Kent State. She posted a .367 field-goal percentage (11-for-30) and went 4-for-11 from behind the arc and 9-for-10 from the foul line.
