#BIGEASTwbb Minute: 2025-26 Season Tips Off on Monday

Let the Games Begin
The 2025-26 women’s basketball season is officially here as five BIG EAST squads tip off on Monday. BIG EAST teams will combine for 21 non-conference games during the opening week, with 16 on ESPN+. All five of Monday’s games can be streamed live on ESPN+, starting with Butler vs. Wright State at 11 a.m. Marquette hosts Winthrop at noon, followed by LeMoyne-St. John’s at 2 p.m. South Dakota at Creighton and Lafayette at Villanova close opening day, both at 7 p.m. Reigning national champions, the UConn Huskies, start their season on Tuesday against Louisville at 5:30 p.m. at the United States Naval Academy on ESPN.
 
2025-26 Women’s Basketball TV Schedule
The upcoming season marks the first year of a six-year media agreement, which will span from 2025-26 through 2030-31, encompassing coverage on FOX Sports (FOX, FS1), NBC Sports (NBC, Peacock), and TNT Sports (TNT, TBS and truTV).  The agreement will provide comprehensive national broadcast, cable, and direct-to-consumer streaming coverage of BIG EAST women's and men's basketball games. ESPN+ will also stream a minimum of 75 women's basketball games. For more, click here.
 
2025-26 Preseason Awards
The 2025 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll was announced in October with UConn as the unanimous preseason favorite. The Huskies collected 100 points and 10 first-place votes in the poll for the third straight year. UConn sophomore forward Sarah Strong was voted BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Preseason Player of the Year. Teammate Kelis Fisher was selected BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year.  In addition to the major awards, a 10-member Preseason All-BIG EAST Team was named, along with three Honorable Mention selections. Major Awards | Preseason Poll
 
2024-25 Season Recap
UConn secured its 12th national championship by defeating South Carolina in the 2025 National Championship game. The Huskies also claimed their 24th regular-season title and 23rd BIG EAST Tournament crown. Creighton was the second team to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The BIG EAST had three teams receive bids to the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT), with Marquette, Seton Hall, and Villanova all earning spots in the 32-team postseason event. Butler advanced to the Super 16 of the WNIT. UConn had the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft with Paige Bueckers, making her the sixth top draft pick in program history. Teammates Kaitlyn Chen and Aubrey Griffin were both chosen in the third round. Azzi Fudd (UConn) was named the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, made the BIG EAST All-Tournament team, and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. UConn’s Sarah Strong holds the NCAA record for most points scored in a single NCAA Tournament by a freshman, with 114. Seton Hall’s Jada Eads became the program’s first freshman to be named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Villanova’s Jasmine Bascoe set a freshman record at Villanova for steals in a season, with 66. Marquette’s Lee Volker achieved a career-best field goal percentage of 41.5 percent (44-of-106) from three-point range, the third highest by a senior or graduate student in program history.
