Bulldogs Take Greenbriar in a 4-0 Sunday for the BIG EAST; Feast Week Begins with BIG EAST Teams in Maui, Las Vegas


MBB Minute: Butler took home the Greenbriar Tip-Off crown on Sunday, downing Virginia for its second MTE title in as many years.  Xavier notched its first signature win of the season, beating West Virginia by 10.  UConn and DePaul both cruised to home wins on Sunday evening.

Butler 80, Virginia 73 - Box Score 
Finley Bizjack scored 25 points and Michael Ajayi tallied his sixth straight double-double with 17 points and 14 boards as Butler downed Virginia to take the Greenbriar Tip-Off Classic title.  The Bulldogs controlled the glass, outrebounding UVA, 43-39, and has won the battle on the boards in each of its six games this season. It marks the second straight season that Butler has captured its multi-team event (MTE).

Xavier 78, West Virginia 68 - Box Score 
Xavier used a 9-2 second half push to pull away from West Virginia in the third place game of the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic. The Musketeers connected on a season-best 16 3-pointers in a 10-point win, connecting on 64% of their attempts from long range.  Jovan Milicevic scored a career-high 21 points to go with seven boards in the win.  He and Tre Carroll each knocked down five trifectas.

UConn 72, Bryant 49 - Box Score 
Silas Demary Jr. posted his first career triple-double as No. 3/3 UConn cruised to a 23-point win over Bryant.  Demary ended with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists - it was the first triple-double by a BIG EAST player since March 8, 2025 (SJU's Kadary Richmond).  UConn was in control from the tip, leading 29-9 through the first 16 minutes of action.  Eric Reibe led the Huskies with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

DePaul 95, Detroit Mercy 75 - Box Score 
Layden Blocker had 18 points and CJ Gunn 17 as DePaul used a balanced scoring attack to down Detroit Mercy.  Five Blue Demons reached double-digits in the scoring column on the night.  All 17 of Gunn's points came in the second half.  DePaul led by eight at the break and put the game out of reach thanks to a 17-4 run to start the second half.  Seven different players connected on 3-pointers, as DePaul drilled a season-best 14 shots from beyond the arc.

Both the Maui Invitational and Players Era Tournament begin play on Monday, with three BIG EAST teams in action.  Creighton begins the day with a BIG EAST doubleheader on truTV from Las Vegas.  The Bluejays take on Baylor at 2 p.m., followed by StJohn's and Iowa State at 4:30 p.m.  Seton Hall gets going in Maui, with an opening round matchup with N.C. State at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
