NEW YORK – UConn graduate student guard Azzi Fudd averaged 27.5 points on a .581/.688/1.000 shooting split in another 2-0 week to be named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. Teammate freshman forward Blanca Quiñonez averaged 11.5 points for the Huskies to claim freshman of the week for the second straight week.
Marquette junior guard Halle Vice, Providence graduate student guard Sabou Gueye, Seton Hall junior guard Savannah Catalon, Villanova senior guard Ryanne Allen, and Xavier junior guard Mariyah Noel were named to this week's honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Azzi Fudd, UConn, Gr., G
Fudd averaged 27.5 points on a .581/.688/1.000 shooting split in wins over #6 Michigan and Utah. She scored a season-high 31 points and went 7-for-12 from three-point range with five rebounds in the 72-69 victory against the Wolverines. As Michigan made a comeback, Fudd scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to hold off the Wolverines, including going 3-for-3 from three. In the 93-41 win over Utah, Fudd shot 9-for-11 and went 4-for-4 from three for 24 points. She added a career-high eight rebounds.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Blanca Quiñonez, UConn, Fr., F
Quiñonez averaged 11.5 points in UConn's 2-0 week. The freshman scored a season-high 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting and grabbed five boards in the 93-41 route versus Utah.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Halle Vice, Marquette, Jr., G
Vice scored a career-high 23 points to pace Marquette to a 75-43 win over Milwaukee. She shot an efficient 9-of-11 from the field and was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Sabou Gueye, Providence, Gr., G
Gueye averaged 21.5 points per game in wins over Northeastern and Yale for the Friars. She shot .621 from the field (18-29) and .778 from the foul line and added 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game. Gueye scored 20+ points in each of the Friars' games last week, including a career-high 22 points against Yale.
Savannah Catalon, Seton Hall, Jr., G
Catalon scored 20 points in the 90-83 double-overtime win over Fordham, with 15 of her 20 points coming in the fourth quarter. In the second overtime, she hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 2:06 left to play. Catalon also tied for the team lead with eight rebounds, to go with three assists and three steals.
Ryanne Allen, Villanova, Sr., G
Allen recorded team-highs in points (19) and assists (6) in Villanova's 88-58 win versus Temple. She went 7-for-8 from the field, including 5-for-6 from deep.
Mariyah Noel, Xavier, Jr., G
Noel posted her second double-double of the season with 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the 74-53 win vs. Ohio. The guard was 6-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line, adding five assists.
