Seton Hall Tops No. 23/22 N.C. State to move to 6-0; Play Continues in Las Vegas and Maui, Nova hosts ODU on Tuesday


MBB Minute: Seton Hall registered its biggest win of the 2025-26 season, downing No. 23/22 N.C. State in the Maui Invitational opener on Monday afternoon.  In Las Vegas, both St. John's and Creighton dropped close matchups in the first day of the Players Era Championship.

Seton Hall 85, N.C. State 74 - Box Score 
After trailing 2-0, the Pirates dominated the game on both ends of the floor for the next 39 minutes.  Mike Williams and AJ Staton-McCray set the pace for the Pirates early on, combining to connect on the first four attempts from beyond the arc en route to taking a 16-6 lead.  Williams finished with 14 points and six rebounds, while Staton-McCray led all scorers with 22 points (7-11 FG; 3-7 3FG), eight boards, and two blocks.  A two-point game at the break (35-33), Seton Hall opened the second half on a 17-2 run and never looked back.  The Wolfpack never got closer than nine the rest of the way.  The Pirates registered nine blocked shots and 11 steals.  Entering the game, teams ranked on the national polls had won all 96 previous meetings against unranked opponents.

Iowa State 83, St. John's 82Box Score 
Oziyah Sellers led four Red Storm players in double figures with 20 points in a one-point loss to Iowa State in the Players Era Championship.  Bryce Hopkins and Zuby Ejiofor each had 16. The game saw four ties and nine lead changes - eight in the second half.  Back-to-back 3-pointers from Sellers gave SJU an 80-79 edge with 2:09 to play, but the Cyclones took the lead for good on the next possession.

Baylor 81, Creighton 74 - Box Score 
Hudson Greer led Creighton with 16 points off the bench in his second game of the season.  A hot start by Baylor allowed the Bears to build as much as a 12-point first half lead.  But Creighton would battle back in the second half, logging three ties over the final 20 minutes. The game was tied at 62-62 with nine minutes to play but the Bluejays got no closer. Josh Dix added 15 points and Nik Graves 12.

Play continues at the Players Era Tournament and Maui Invitational, while Villanova hosts ODU at Finneran Pavilion on Tuesday.  Creighton and StJohn's swap their Monday opponents, as the Bluejays take on Iowa State and the Red Storm faces Baylor in Las Vegas.  SetonHall and USC play in the second round at the Lahaina Civic Center.
