St. John's Handles Baylor at Players Era; Nova Victorious at home

MBB Minute: St. John's cruised to a 15-point win over Baylor and a short-handed Villanova team took care of business at home against ODU.  In Maui, Seton Hall and USC battled for 40 minutes with the Pirates falling two points short, and Creighton fell against No. 15/15 Iowa State in day two of the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas.

St. John's 96, Baylor 81 - Box Score 
The Red Storm used an efficient offense to bounce back at the Players Era in Las Vegas.  St John's scored 96 points on nearly 58% shooting from the floor - and a 1.39 points per possession mark.  A trio of Johnnies tallied season-highs in the scoring column, led by 26 points from Bryce Hopkins.  Oziyah Sellers added 22 and Dillon Mitchell 18 as SJU connected on a season-best 11 3-pointers in the 15-point win.

Villanova 89, ODU 75 - Box Score 
The backcourt trio of Tyler Perkins (21 points), Acaden Lewis (20), and Bryce Lindsay (12) combined for 53 of Villanova's 89 points in the win.  The Wildcats broke the game open in the second half, connecting on 10-of-14 shots from the floor to start the period. Despite playing without Duke Brennan, the nation's leading rebounder, Villanova held a 34-29 edge on the glass.

USC 83, Seton Hall 81 - Box Score 
Seton Hall dropped its first game of the season in the second round of the Maui Invitational.  The Pirates led by as many as 13 in the first half, but saw its lead whittled away by a steady stream of USC free throws over the final 20 minutes of play.  Budd Clark led four SHU players in double-digits, scoring a season-high 18 points to go with seven assists and three steals.  AJ Staton-McCray added 17 points and four steals.

Iowa State 78, Creighton 60 - Box Score 
The Bluejays fell in the second game of the Players Era championship to No. 15/15 Iowa State.  Creighton got within eight with 15:35 left in regulation but got no closer.  Four players scored in double figures, led by 15 apiece from Jasen Green and Josh Dix.  Owen Freeman led CU with nine rebounds in the loss.

In Wednesday's BIG EAST action, play concludes for SJU at the Players Era Tournament and SHU at the Maui Invitational.  St. John's and No. 21/25 Auburn will matchup at 8 p.m. ET.  The game will air live on truTV.  Seton Hall and Washington State meet in the third-place game of the Maui Invitational at 5:30 p.m. ET, on ESPN2.
