The Pirates led wire-to-wire in the third place game at the Maui Invitational. SHU jumped out to a 15-2 lead less than five minutes into the game, setting the tone defensively by logging four steals during the span. AJ Staton-McCray was outstanding again, logging 20 points to lead four players in double figures. Mike Williams had 13 points and Stephon Payne added 11 points and seven boards. In six of the Pirates' seven wins this season, they have held their opponent to 61 points or less.

Trailing by seven (17-10) midway through the first half, St. John's settled in on both ends of the court and used an 11-2 run to close the first frame with a 39-30 lead at the break. Auburn flipped the script in the second half, connecting on 64% of its shot attempts to pull away from the the Red Storm for the win. Zuby Ejiofor led St. John's with 24 points, while Joson Sanon added a season-high 16.
