MBB Minute – Eight of the nine BIG EAST teams in action on Monday picked up a victory.
 
St. John's 108, Quinnipiac 74 - Box Score
Dillon Mitchell led five players in double figures with 18 points as No. 5/6 St. John's cruised to a win over Quinnipiac. Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year Zuby Ejiofor had 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  SJU's 108 points was the program's highest total since 2021, when it scored 119 against Mississippi Valley State.
 
Georgetown 87, Morgan State 70 - Box Score
Eleven Hoyas scored - led by preseason All-BIG EAST second teamer KJ Lewis' 14 points - as Georgetown cruised to an opening night win over Morgan State.  GU outscored Morgan State 25-13 to start the second half, putting the game out of reach.  Malik Mack added 11 points and DeShawn Harris-Smith 10 in the win.
 
UConn 77, New Haven 59  - Box Score
Alex Karaban registered an opening night double-double with 19 points and 10 boards, leading four Huskies in double figures.  No. 4/4 UConn dominated the offensive glass, turning 10 OReb into 13 second chance points. Solo Ball added 18 points and five boards in the win.
 
Xavier 66, Marist 62 - Box Score
Xavier opened the Richard Pitino era with a home win over Marist, led by 16 points by Malik Messina-Moore.  A back-and-forth affair all night, X used a 7-2 run down the stretch to seal the victory. All Wright and Jovan Milicevic each tallied 14 points off the bench for the Musketeers.
 
Providence 89, Holy Cross 79 - Box Score
Freshmen Stefan Vaaks (19) and Jamier Jones (16) combined to score 35 points as five Providence players reached double-digits in the scoring column.  Jones was a perfect 7-of-7 on the night. Big man Oswin Erhunmwunse added eight rebounds and four blocked shots, while Ryan Mela tallied four steals.
 
Seton Hall 77, Saint Peter's 50 - Box Score  
Najai Hines led a balanced Pirates' offensive attack, scoring 12 points in Seton Hall's opening night blowout.  Hines added nine rebounds and six blocked shots - the most by a Pirate freshman since 2007.  Seton Hall broke the game open in the second half, taking as much as a 26-point lead - 72-36 - with seven minutes remaining.
 
Marquette 80, UAlbany 53 - Box Score
Chase Ross had 15 points and five of Marquette's 18 total steals.  The Golden Eagles used a 21-2 run to start the second half, putting the game out of reach.  Sean Jones returned the court after missing the 2024-25 campaign due to injury - he had six points and four assists in 20 minutes.
 
DePaul 92, Chicago State 62 - Box Score
NJ Benson and Layden Blocker scored 16 points apiece to lead the way in a wire-to-wire win for DePaul.  Benson added 10 boards on the night - his 14th career double-double. The Blue Demons registered 21 assists on 30 made field goals, while logging 12 steals and 22 points off turnovers.
 
BYU 71, Villanova 66 - Box Score
Villanova rallied from a 14-point second half deficit but came up short against the No. 8 Cougars at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.  Trailing 46-32, the Wildcats used a 24-9 push to take the lead.  Bryce Lindsay scored 19 of his team-high 22 points in the final 20 minutes. 
 
The BIG EAST returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 5 with three games on tap, including the season openers for Creighton and Butler.
