BIG EAST WBB Minute: UConn Defeats Marquette; St. John’s & Creighton Tally Wins

at #1 UConn 89, Marquette 53

Sarah Strong’s stat line included 22 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks, while shooting 9-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from the arc in 25 minutes of action. Azzi Fudd chipped in 14 points on .500/.500/1.000 shooting while Blanca Quinonez finished with 12 points and four boards off the bench. Serah Williams had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Kayleigh Heckel tied her career-high in assists with six. Marquette’s Skylar Forbes led the Golden Eagles with 17 points for the sixth straight game, scoring double figures. Lee Volker and Kennedi Perkins both recorded three steals each.

St. John’s 67 at New Haven 47

Brooke Moore scored a game-high 23 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field, to go with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jailah Donald added a season-high 12 points, all from deep. SJU outscored New Haven 37-14 in the first half. With the victory, head coach Joe Tartamella earned his 250th career win. 

Creighton 92 at Omaha 48

Neleigh Gessert led the Bluejays with a career-high tying 25 points. She added five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Twin sister Norah Gessert also tallied a career-high points total (15), highlighted by a career-high five made 3-pointers. Elizabeth Gentry scored Creighton’s first 11 points of the game to finish with 17. Allison Heathcock was the fourth and final Bluejay to record double figures, with 12 points to go with four assists and two steals. Creighton converted 29 points off 20 Omaha turnovers.

at UIC 77, DePaul 67 
Box Score
Shakara scored a career-high 25 points while Ally Timm had 11 points. Despite a one-point lead heading into the final frame, DePaul couldn’t hold on, being outscored 26-15 in the last 10 minutes of the game. The Blue Demons recorded 20 assists on 24 made field goals.
