NEW YORK – UConn sophomore forward Sarah Strong averaged 22.5 points on a .633/.462 shooting split in a 2-0 week over Marquette and #11 Iowa to be named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. Teammate forward Blanca Quiñonez averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals to earn freshman of the week for the second consecutive week.
Butler junior forward Caroline Dotsey, Marquette junior forward Skylar Forbes, Providence graduate student guard Sabou Gueye, St. John’s junior guard Brooke Moore, and Xavier sophomore guard Vivien Nejašmic were named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Sarah Strong, UConn, So., F
Strong averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 4.0 steals on a .633/.462 shooting split in wins over Marquette and #11 Iowa. Strong finished with 23 points, including 20 in the first half, on 10-18 shooting with seven rebounds, four assists and tied her career high with six steals in the 90-64 victory versus the Hawkeyes. Earlier in the week, in the 89-53 win against Marquette, she scored 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Blanca Quiñonez, UConn, Fr., F
Quiñonez averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in wins against Marquette (89-53) and #11 Iowa (90-64). She scored 12 points and four rebounds versus the Golden Eagles, then had 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting, to go with four boards, a season-best five assists and five steals against Iowa.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Caroline Dotsey, Butler, Jr., F
Behind a season-high 25 points from Dotsey, Butler secured a 64-58 victory over the Xavier Musketeers on Friday. Dotsey led all scorers with 25 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the floor. She chipped in eight rebounds and two assists.
Skylar Forbes, Marquette, Jr., F
Forbes averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game last week against UConn (53-89) and Truman State (86-43). She posted her first double-double since Dec. 21, 2024, with 26 points and 11 rebounds against Truman State. She also scored a team-high 17 points at No. 1 UConn.
Sabou Gueye, Providence, Gr., G
Gueye scored a career-high 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line in the overtime win over Georgetown. She chipped in a game-high eight rebounds (six offensive), six steals and three blocks and added one assist.
Brooke Moore, St. John’s, Jr., G
Moore had 23 points on 10-of-14 from the field. She shot 2-3 from 3-point range and shot 100% from the foul line in the 67-47 win over New Haven. She grabbed nine boards, dished out two assists, recorded two steals and blocked one shot in the victory.
Vivien Nejašmic, Xavier, So., G
Nejašmic scored a team-high 24 points on 10-for-17 shooting in 25 minutes of action off the bench at Butler. She is one of only two Xavier players to make 10 or more field goals in a game since the start of the 2022-23 season.
