NEW YORK – Creighton senior forward Morgan Maly recorded back-to-back double-doubles in a pair of wins over Seton Hall and Villanova to be named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time this season. Villanova freshman guard Jasmine Bascoe earned freshman of the week for the second week this season.
Butler senior guard Kilyn McGuff, DePaul graduate student forward Jorie Allen, Georgetown graduate student guard Kelsey Ransom, Seton Hall sophomore guard Savannah Catalon and Providence senior guard Marta Morales Romero were named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Morgan Maly, Creighton, Sr., F
Maly recorded back-to-back double-doubles in a pair of wins over Seton Hall and Villanova. Maly registered 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from the beyond the arc, to go with 10 rebounds and four assists in the 72-56 win over the Pirates to complete the series sweep. She led the Bluejays with 23 points and 10 rebounds to a 70-57 victory at Villanova on Saturday.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova, Fr., G
Bascoe finished a 1-1 week averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She shot 40.0 percent (14-for-35) from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. Bascoe finished with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in the 63-59 win at Butler. She ended the week with 21 points, seven boards and four assists against Creighton.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Kilyn McGuff, Butler, Sr., G
McGuff averaged 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week, shooting 60 percent from the field (14-23) and 64 percent from 3-point range (9-14). She had 19 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and a block vs. Villanova. On Sunday, she led Butler to a 67-65 victory over Marquette with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Jorie Allen, DePaul, Gr., F
Allen averaged 25.0 points in a 1-1 week against Providence and Georgetown. The graduate student scored a game-high 31 points, with 17 on free throws, to go with eight boards and three blocks versus the Hoyas.
Kelsey Ransom, Georgetown, Gr., G
Ransom averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Hoyas went 1-1 against DePaul and Xavier. The graduate student scored 18 points versus DePaul, to go with five assists to become the program’s all-time assist leader (510).
Savannah Catalon, Seton Hall, So., G
Catalon tied for the team lead with 11 points to go with three rebounds and three steals at Creighton. On Saturday against Xavier, Catalon had a game-high 17 points and set a program record with 11 steals.
Marta Morales Romero, Providence, Sr., G
Morales Romero averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game while shooting .524 from the field (11-21), including .400 from beyond the arc (4-10) in a 1-1 week versus DePaul and UConn. Against the nationally ranked Huskies, she recorded 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
