NEW YORK – UConn graduate student guard Azzi Fudd averaged 31 points in a 2-0 week, including 28 points in the 87-58 win at #4 South Carolina to be named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. Seton Hall freshman guard Jada Eads averaged 19.5 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor to receive freshman of the week honors for the fifth time this season.
UConn freshman forward Sarah Strong, Creighton senior forward Morgan Maly, Marquette sophomore forward Skylar Forbes, St. John’s senior guard Lashae Dwyer, and Villanova sophomore guard Maddie Webber were named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Azzi Fudd, UConn, Gr., G
Fudd averaged 31 points on 54.5 percent shooting and 58.3 percent three-point shooting. She started the week off with a 34-point performance as the Huskies took down St. John’s, 78-40. In the 87-58 win at #4 South Carolina, Fudd scored 28 points with 18 points in the third quarter. Fudd went 6-for-10 in the nationally ranked matchup.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jada Eads, Seton Hall, Fr., G
Eads averaged 19.5 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week. The freshman erupted for 26 points on 10-for-21 shooting, to go with three rebounds and two steals against Marquette earlier in the week. She then led the Pirates to a 59-38 win at Providence with 13 points, four boards, two assists and two steals.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Sarah Strong, UConn, Fr., F
Strong recorded her sixth double-double of the season at #4 South Carolina with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She added four assists and two steals in the 87-58 win.
Morgan Maly, Creighton, Sr., F
Maly led Creighton with a team-high 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting in the 70-48 win versus Georgetown.
Skylar Forbes, Marquette, So., F
Forbes averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 blocks in a 2-0 week against Seton Hall and DePaul. The sophomore also went 11-for-13 from the free throw line, including 9-for-9 versus the Blue Demons.
Lashae Dwyer, St. John’s, Sr., G
Dwyer finished in double figures in both contests in a 1-1 week versus UConn and Butler. She poured in 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the floor and 4-for-6 from 3-point range in the 65-43 win over Butler.
Maddie Webber, Villanova, So., G
Webber averaged 21.5 points on 17-for-38 (.447) shooting from the floor in wins over DePaul and Xavier. In Wednesday’s 62-56 victory at DePaul, Webber scored 30 points with five 3-pointers.
