NEW YORK – UConn redshirt senior guard Paige Bueckers averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in a 2-0 week to be named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. UConn freshman forward Sarah Strong averaged 13 points on .580 shooting from the floor to receive freshman of the week honors for the ninth time this season.
Creighton senior guard Lauren Jensen, Georgetown graduate student Kelsey Ransom, St. John’s senior guard Lashae Dwyer, Providence senior forward Olivia Olsen and Villanova sophomore guard Maddie Webber were named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Paige Bueckers, UConn, R-Sr., G
Bueckers averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 2.5 steals in a pair of road wins at Seton Hall and Butler. She finished the week with a 62.1 field goal percentage. Bueckers had 23 points, nine boards and five assists against the Pirates, followed by a 23-point, 10-assist double-double at Butler.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Sarah Strong, UConn, Fr., F
In a 2-0 week, Strong averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals. The freshman recorded 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks in the 86-47 victory at Butler. Earlier in the week at Seton Hall, the freshman finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 22 minutes of work.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Lauren Jensen, Creighton, Sr., G
Jensen led Creighton to a pair of wins over St. John's and at DePaul with 44 combined points, including 28 against the Blue Demons. She went 12-for-21 (57.1) against DePaul.
Kelsey Ransom, Georgetown, Gr., G
Ransom averaged 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals versus Villanova and Marquette. She recorded her second double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds and shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line against the Wildcats.
Lashae Dwyer, St. John’s, Sr., G
Dwyer has scored 17 points or more for the third consecutive game as she led the Johnnies averaging 17.5 points per game last week on 60 percent shooting from the floor.
Olivia Olsen, Providence, Sr., F
In a 1-1 week, Olsen averaged a double-double (17.5 points, 11.0 rebounds) and shot 54 percent from the field.
Maddie Webber, Villanova, So., G
Webber averaged 16.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week against Georgetown and Providence.
