NEW YORK – Connecticut guard Solo Ball has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown forward-center Thomas Sorber has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Ball led the Huskies to a win at No. 9 Marquette. Sorber takes Freshman honors for a sixth time.

Solo Ball, UConn, G, So.
Ball averaged 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in a 2-0 week. He was the prime contributor in a 77-69 win at Marquette. Ball posted game highs of 25 points and 11 rebounds. He made 7-of-9 from 3-point range. Ball also had 16 points in a 72-61 victory against DePaul. For the week, the sophomore made 9-of-14 (.643) from beyond the arc.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Thomas Sorber, Georgetown, F-C, Fr. – Sorber earns Freshman of the Week honors for the sixth time after averaging 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 1-1 week. He scored a game-high 19 points in a 73-70 win over Butler. For the season, Sorber is averaging 14.7 points, a league-leading 8.9 rebounds. He ranks second in blocked shots with a 2.2 mark.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Ryan Kalkbrenner, Creighton, C, Sr. – Averaged 25.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Shot 75 percent from the field in wins over Xavier (86-77) and at Villanova (62-60). Scored 29 points in the Xavier victory.
Layden Blocker, DePaul, G, So. – Averaged 12.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week, including a win over Seton Hall (74-57). Shot 72.7 percent from the field.
Kam Jones, Marquette, G, Sr. – Averaged 19.5 points and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week. Scored 22 in a loss to UConn (77-69).
Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Providence, G, Gr. – Averaged 20.0 points, 4.5 boards and made 11-of-16 from 3-point range in a 1-1 week. Hit 8-of-11 from beyond the arc in a loss at St. John’s (68-66). The eight treys were the most made by a Providence player in 25 years.
Kadary Richmond, St. John’s, G, Gr. – Averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists in a 2-0 week. Shot 76.2 percent from the field. Made winning basket in final seconds in a win over Providence (68-66).
