MBB Minute – Creighton, Butler and Georgetown all won home games on Saturday. Creighton knocked off No. 11 Marquette. Butler edged Providence and Georgetown pulled away for a win over Seton Hall.

Creighton got the best of
Marquette in the final minutes in a 77-67 victory. Marquette’s last lead was 61-60 with 6:34 to play before the Bluejays (18-6, 11-2 BIG EAST) emerged with their BIG EAST record ninth league win in a row. Steven Ashworth had 22 points and seven assists. Ryan Kalkbrenner made 8-of-9 from the field and finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Kam Jones registered a game-high 27 points for the Golden Eagles (18-6, 9-4).
At Hinkle Fieldhouse,
Butler held on to beat
Providence 82-81. Jahmyl Telfort led the Bulldogs with 24 points. Butler (11-13, 4-9) shot 50 percent from the field and 10-of-19 from 3-point range. Pierre Brooks added 18 points. Butler is 7-0 when scoring 80 or more points. The Friars (11-13, 5-8) rallied from a 13-point deficit to tie the game 76-76 with 3:47 remaining. Bensley Joseph scored a game-high 26 points. Rich Barron hit seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 23 points. It was PC’s fifth loss by two points or less.
In a defensive struggle,
Georgetown defeated
Seton Hall 60-46 at Capital One Arena. The Pirates (6-18, 1-12) led most of the first half before a late spurt gave the Hoyas (15-9, 6-7) a 34-26 edge at the break. They led the rest of the way. Micah Peavy led the Hoyas with 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks. The Hall was paced by Isaiah Coleman’s 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Xavier and
Villanova, both with 6-6 BIG EAST records, meet at Wells Fargo Center at noon ET on FS1. The Musketeers, 14-9 overall, beat the Wildcats, 13-10 overall, 69-63 on Jan. 14 behind Ryan Conwell’s 34 points.
