Georgetown Rallies Past Villanova; Creighton Wins At Seton Hall

MBB Minute – On the final Tuesday of the regular season, Georgetown put together a late rally to knock off Villanova while Creighton won at Seton Hall as the BIG EAST Tournament seedings begin to take shape.

Georgetown (17-13, 8-11 BIG EAST) closed its 75-73 victory against Villanova (18-13, 11-9) with a game-clinching 15-4 run. The Hoyas trailed 69-60 with 3:43 before their comeback. Jayden Epps led four GU players in double figures with 20 points. Micah Peavy added 19. Villanova’s Eric Dixon scored all of his game-high 24 points in the second half. Coupled with a 64-62 win at Villanova on Jan. 20, the Hoyas have their first two-game sweep of the Wildcats since 1992-93.

Creighton assured itself of a No. 2 or 3 tournament seed after its 79-61 win over Seton Hall at Prudential Center. Ryan Kalkbrenner posted game highs of 20 points and nine rebounds. The Bluejays (21-9, 14-5) also got a collegiate-high 17 points from Jackson McAndrew. CU tied a program record with its 14th BIG EAST victory. The Pirates (7-23, 2-17) were led by Isaiah Coleman’s 18 points and seven rebounds.

Before Saturday’s season finale, three games are set for Wednesday. No. 20 Marquette (22-7, 13-5) plays Connecticut (20-9, 12-6) at Gampel Pavilion at 8:30 p.m. ET on FS1. The Golden Eagles are currently in the No. 3 seed position, one game ahead of the No. 4 Huskies.

Xavier (19-10, 11-7) visits Butler (13-16, 6-12) at 7 p.m. on CBSSN. A Xavier win gives the Musketeers a first-round bye and makes Villanova the No. 6 seed.

DePaul (11-18, 2-16) plays at Providence (12-17, 6-12) at 6:30 p.m. on FS1. The Friars are currently the eighth seed and the Blue Demons are 10th. PC won the first meeting 70-63 in overtime on Dec. 10.
