UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Ber'Nyah Mayo had 16 points and Skye Owen had 13 points as No. 8 seed St. John's defeated No. 9 seed Butler, 66-50, in the first round of the 2025 Big East Women's Basketball Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday.
St. John's made 15 of its first 21 shots in the second half after trailing by as many as nine points in the first half.
Lashae Dwyer had 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for St. John's (16-14).
Sydney Jaynes had 14 points and Lily Zeinstra added 11 points for Butler (15-17).
St. John's, which will play top-seeded UConn in Saturday's quarterfinals, held Butler's top scorer Kilyn McGuff scoreless in the second half.
