Commissioner Val Ackerman's Statement on the Retirement of Creighton Volleyball Head Coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth

"We proudly recognize Creighton Head Coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth for her extraordinary leadership and enduring impact on collegiate volleyball and the BIG EAST Conference. Since Creighton joined the conference in 2013, Coach Booth and the program have set an unrivaled standard of excellence, capturing 11 consecutive BIG EAST regular season titles and 10 BIG EAST Tournament crowns, an unprecedented stretch of domination made possible by preparation, talent and drive.

Creighton’s national success under Coach Booth was punctuated by an historic 2024 season, featuring a program-record 32 wins, 25 straight victories, and the school’s second Elite Eight appearance.  Over the past 15 seasons, the Bluejays have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and earned top-25 wins in ten straight years.

Beyond her on-court success, Coach Booth has been a respected mentor and friend to coaches across the BIG EAST, where she has fostered collaboration at every turn and has been a thoughtful and constructive participant in our meeting rooms.  Nationally, as President of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), she led and advocated for the growth of the sport with passion and vision, and her ability to develop talent, lead with integrity, and compete at the highest level has had a profound impact on the sport.  She goes out a legend.

We congratulate Coach Booth on an extraordinary run and wish her all the best with the exciting new chapters that await her."
