NEW YORK – No. 11 UConn, the reigning BIG EAST Field Hockey champion, has been selected as the preseason favorite in the 2025 BIG EAST Field Hockey Coaches’ Poll. The Huskies top the preseason poll for the first time since 2021 after receiving six of a possible seven first-place votes, earning a total of 48 points.
No. 17 Liberty followed in second with 40 points and two first-place votes. Old Dominion was picked to finish third with 37 points, just ahead of Temple, which placed fourth with 34. Villanova placed fifth in the poll with 26 points followed by Providence (19). The standings were rounded out by Quinnipiac (13) and Georgetown (7).
Liberty senior forward Lou Combrinck was named the 2025 BIG EAST Field Hockey Preseason Offensive Player of the year, while UConn senior midfielder Sol Simone was unanimously voted Preseason Midfielder of the Year. Old Dominion's Serena Langendoen, a sophomore defender, was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and her teammate Suus Broers, a junior, earned Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
Liberty’s Combrinck enters her fourth year for the Lady Flames. She started all 18 games last season and recorded a career high 22 points on eight goals and six assists. The native of Hillcrest, South Africa earned Second Team All-BIG EAST and NFHCA All-South Region honors.
The reigning BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, Simone helped lead the Huskies to their first BIG EAST Championship title since 2020. She scored 24 points on six goals and 12 assists over 20 regular season games. In 2024 she earned First Team All-BIG EAST and NFHCA Third Team All-American Honors.
Langendoen was part of a defensive unit that limited opposing teams to just 19 goals on the season, and nine in BIG EAST Play. She was named to the 2024 All-BIG EAST Second Team and finished the regular season with 15 points on seven goals and one assist.
Old Dominion’s Broers enters her junior campaign after earning Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors for the second consecutive year. In 2024, she started all 18 games in goal for the Monarchs, recording 49 saves and two shutouts. The native of Utrecht, Netherlands received All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades and NFHCA South All-Regions honors.
In addition to the poll and preseason awards, the conference also released the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
The 13-member squad includes four midfielders, three forwards, four defenders and two goalkeepers. Three players were unanimous selections: Sol Simone, Lou Combrinck and Bo Martina.
The preseason all-conference team is listed below.
