Xavier Earns Win Over Butler on Wednesday

BIG EAST Play returns on Friday with a pair of games


MBB Minute: Tre Carroll led five Xavier players in double figures as the Musketeers won, 89-75, at home with Butler in Wednesday's lone BIG EAST matchup.

Tre Carroll poured in 29 points to go with nine rebounds in Xavier's win over Butler on Wednesday.  The Musketeers led wire-to-wire on the night, opening up as much as a 13-point lead before the Bulldogs scored eight straight to end the first half.  Carroll scored 12 of X's first 20 points of the second half, helping push the lead to double figures the rest of the way.  Xavier posted a season-high 30 assists, with Malik Messina-Moore and Filip Borovicanin leading the way with nine apiece.  Messina-Moore finished with 15 points and Borovicanin added 14.  Butler's Michael Ajayi tallied his 13th double-double of the season, finishing with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Yame Butler had 14 and Finley Bizjack 12.

Looking Ahead: After an off day on Thursday, BIG EAST play resumes with a pair of games on Friday night, as Creighton visits Providence and Marquette heads to DePaul.  On Saturday, a pair of games tip off at noon, as Butler heads to Seton Hall and UConn travels to Georgetown before closing the day's action with St. John's visiting Villanova.
